iSurf
January 27th, 2006
I get ideas. I get them all the time. Some of them are for products and others are for services. I forget many of them as I do not use any means of recording them. I research some of them and find out that the product already exists. This was the case for my adjustable measuring spoon and my ethernet connected thermostat. Most of my ideas have already been created by someone else and I was ignorant to their existence. However, in the absence of my knowledge of them, I still consider them original ideas. Some times I get ideas for products that don’t exist. Unfortunately, none of them are easy enough to cheaply produce and I don’t have the cash to pay for patents and patent research.
Today there was an article on Macsimum News regarding an Apple patent that could lead to an Apple tablet computer. This reminded me of one of my long running product ideas that I will share here. I am now calling it iSurf since I am imagining it as an Apple product. Previously, it has no name.
My graphics ability are limited so I will have to try to be as descriptive as possible.
Looking at iSurf is like looking at half of an iBook. Obviously this is the half with the display. Make the border a little larger and add some buttons and this is the basic look of an iSurf.
What does iSurf do?
It has a touch sensitive screen.
Pressing a button turns part of the screen into a keyboard for inputting information.
It has flash memory that contains an OS that powers on instantly.
It has a built in wireless connectivity.
It has a built in web browser for surfing the net. It can play some media content and view some document types.
It has a built in e-mail client
It has a infrared and RF remote control that can control a TV, DVD, Satellite, etc.
It works with modules that plug into lamps and electric outlets (think X10)
It works with an optional wireless thermostat that can be controlled by iSurf
It can arm/disarm a burglar alarm in the home with compatible alarm keypad
It is a cordless phone with caller ID
The screen displays images upright no matter how the screen is turned – even portrait and landscape
It has “book reader” software
It has a slot for a small flash card that hold books and other documents
It has battery that will last 12 hours
It has a charging dock that can also be used as stand without the power supply connected
Yes, this is big order to fill, but wouldn’t it be awesome?
